Die gelbe Passhülle
Die kleine Schutzhülle aus festem, gelbem Leinen nähte Nanne – wahrscheinlich 1942 – für ihren Reisepass und fasste sie mit geduldig gesetzten Schlingstichen aus gelbem Stickgarn ein.
Als Nannes Mutter den Kindern bald darauf sagte, sie sollten ein paar Sachen packen, Kleidungsstücke, ein Paar Stiefel und was ihnen sonst wichtig sei – vielleicht müssen wir doch noch verreisen,
überlegt euch gut, was ihr braucht, eure Rucksäcke dürfen nicht schwer sein –, suchte Nanne eine Reihe von Fotos aus, etwa dreißig Abzüge in Miniaturformat,
die meisten nicht viel größer als Passbilder, und steckte sie zu ihrem Pass. Der Vater gab ihr eine seiner Visitkarten, steck sie dazu, für alle Fälle, und von da an, wusste sie immer ganz genau,
wo die Hülle war. Später, vermutlich in Westerbork, kam eine Liste mit Adressen für den Notfall dazu, der Vater schrieb sie mit seinem Füllhalter auf liniertes Papier.
The Yellow Pouch
It is probable that Nanne sew the small pouch to store her passport and patiently edged the sturdy yellow linen cloth with slip stitches out of yellow embroidery thread in 1942.
Soon after, Nanne’s mother asked the children to pack a few items, clothes, a pair of boots and anything else they deemed important – we may have to leave after all,
think twice about what you need, your backpacks should not be heavy. Nanne selected a series of photos,
about thirty miniature prints most of them no larger than passport photos and tucked them into her passport pouch.
Her father gave her one of his business cards telling her to place it in together with the photos, just to be on the safe side, and from then on she always knew where to find it all.
Later, perhaps in Westerbork, a list of addresses for emergency purpose, hand written with a fountain pen by her father on lined paper was added.
